The S30V modified tanto blade provides superior piercing ability, easily accessed by the thumbstuds or finger flipper. Black ceramic protects the blade against corrosion; a glass filled nylon, rubberized diamond texture handle is tough and easy to grip.
Four decades of designing tactical knives have given Gerber a wealth of knowledge regarding operators and their needs. The Decree ties all of these lessons into a tight, effective package. The Decree features a premium S30V steel modified tanto blade. The tanto point provides superior piercing ability while the rounded bottom edge allows users to sharpen the blade while maintaining the knife’s geometry.
RAPID DEPLOYMENT FOR OPTIMUM UTILITY
Thumb studs and a finger flip tab allow the operator to rapidly deploy the Decree. The blade’s black ceramic coating provides superior corrosion resistance and minimizes reflective surfaces. Partial serrations offer additional cutting power, and the tempered steel glass breaker in the pommel allows the operator to use the knife in rescue applications. Featuring a glass-filled nylon handle, the Decree’s rubberized diamond texture provides a secure grip in all weather conditions. The Decree is proudly made in Portland, OR.
CARRY ASSURANCE WITH YOU
The Decree is built for hard labor over the long haul. Slip it into a pocket for daily access to a knife that will answer with strength and assurance when tasked. Tie the knife down using its lanyard hole for additional security.
This is my new EDC/last ditch backup knife.
-Made in USA
-great overall "feel"
-VERY little play in blade when deployed
-strong clip feels like it will hold its shape/keep its "spring"
-able to swap clip to my preferred location
-one screw fell out of the clip almost immediately, second also loosened
-VERY stiff hinge, but action is smooth (working it during down times, hope it will "break in" soon)
-PLEASE put some grooves, checkering, or knurling on the finger tab- making it slightly bigger wouldn't hurt, either
-liner lock should be taller/easier to access
I moved the clip so that glass breaker is oriented "up" when in my right pocket. Degreased everything, installed clip using J-B Weld for thread locker and on back side of clip (hopefully the clip will NEVER come loose again!).
Buy with confidence, but WATCH THE CLIP to make sure it stays put. I've read some anecdotes of people stripping out the screw holes for the clip, so I elected to use the J-B Weld on the screws and back side of the clip while just tightening the screws moderately...
I use it to cut thin polyester rope, (mule tape). It's my daily tool.
Liner lock is to stiff. Blade is great material, but difficult to sharpen.
The clip screws come loose. Love the knife, the look, the toughness.
Hate the weak screws for the clip.
Blade will get loose.
Awesome looking, but could have been assembled better.
Reason for Purchase:
I purchased this knife to replace my EDC Smith and Wesson Black Ops tanto. The S&W knife has always been pretty cool; I like the tanto look, but it is a bit tricky to sharpen, which can be a problem when the steel is 4034 stainless and needs to be sharpened A LOT. But it does have a nifty and very fast spring assist, almost fast as an auto. But it also can open in your pocket by accident...
What I Like About the Decree:
This bad boy is made of S30V steel. Anyone who is anyone knows that's a premium grade steel for a knife, let alone a folder. In all truthfulness, a S30V folder should go for a lot more than the $68 I bought it for off Amazon. The sharpening of the modified tanto is ten times easier.
The Decree comes razor sharp out of the box and well oiled. But the opening mechanism isn't quite the "rapid deployment" they talk it up to be. The finger flip tab on the back is pretty useless, but if you're smart and have the appropriate star-head tip for your screwdriver, you can just twist about a half turn loose the pivot screw and flip it open with the thumb stud just about as fast as the old S&W. But it doesn't make the finger tab any better unfortunately...
The liner lock is very stiff out of the box, but I'm sure over time the metal won't bend so far over and it will ease up...so quit your whining that your open blade is overly safe and won't slice your hand, it'll get there.
Is there a lot of play in the blade? Yeah, a bit. Is it a problem? In my opinion, not really. What is this, a pocket pry-bar? It's S30V for God's sake, it's not like it's going to bend or snap with any ease anyway, even if you ARE prying open the elevator doors in a burning building.
Knives, guns, shoes...most things all have break-in periods. So does this knife. You'll have a good grip, a constantly sharp and durable knife, and a lifetime warranty to boot in case it DOES break on that elevator door.
My first Gerber and disappointed. Is not even close to a Kershaw at same price point. I like the blade and shape but handle feels cheap. There is blade play and flipper isnt set right to open knife. The locking mechanism feels like a cheese grater on your thumb.
Pro. Comes sharp and i like shape. Feels good in hand once you get it deployed.
I've carried and lived with this knife for a while, and I am pleased with it. It is sturdy, keeps an edge and is a good size for most tasks. After a while in the field it still looks brand new, which is amazing since it has had a rough life so far. Word of caution: the glass breaker is SHARP and will rip up your hand every time you reach in your pocket if you clip it in your pants pocket with the breaker orientated up.
I purchased this knife because of the lower price for a higher quality blade material and ended up extremely disappointed. I have since returned the knife. I don't know if the one I got just slipped by QC, but judging by some of the other Gerber products I've purchased recently, they are probably all like this. First off the centering of the blade was way off. The handle seemed extremely flimsy, and flexed quite a bit. The blade had a lot of side to side play in it, so I tightened the screw a bit, but if you tighten it to where you get the slack out you can't open or close the blade. It really needs some kind of liner inside the handle to fix the problem. The finish was nice on the blade and it did come hair popping sharp, but that just wasn't enough in my opinion to spend so much on such a poorly designed knife. Maybe I just got a bad one, but it seems to me quality control for Gerber has gone down hill considerably the last few years. Some of my old Gerber knives are still the best in my collection, but the new ones aren't worth the cardboard they are packaged in. Its a shame really. When a $35 Chinese knife is far superior in quality to a $100 American made. Makes me sad. Step it up Gerber.
I have had many knives since being in the Boy Scouts. Sadly this is my first Gerber knife, HOW HAVE I MISSED OUT FOR SO LONG!! I will be buying from Gerber not only because the quality of this knife is outstanding but it is AMERICAN MADE! The knife has held up for me nicely. Yes as other reviews state there is a little play but nothing to cry about. Bottom line: if I need something and Gerber makes it I'll be buying it!!
The blade seems to hold its edge well. I don't use it for a great deal of heavy cutting but I've had it for over a year and only had to do some light honing. It is primarily a back up/last ditch tool. It has a strong lock mechanism with virtually no play. Overall it is a well constructed knife that is not overly heavy and feels comfortable in my hand. I would give it five stars if the opening action was a little bit smoother and if the pocket clip did not tend to work loose, requiring periodic tightening of the two torx head screws. The glass breaker works well. I just used it for the first time to extract someone from an overturned vehicle and it required so little effort to break the window that my hand went through the glass. Wear gloves when using the glass breaker.
I ordered this knife a few months ago and it is awesome. High quality, barely any play. Buy it!
I have owned many a Gerber knives in the past and used them during my deployments - the Decree takes the cake.
Combination of top materials, solid build and smooth operation all contributed to a fantastic product in the end. A must have by any folder knife aficionado.
At over $100 It may be a little expensive for most but keep your eyes peeled on online sites and discounts, these can be found new for as little as $60.
I received this knife a couple weeks ago. Mine came very sharp and is still very sharp after a few weeks of use without sharpening. The pocket clip comes a bit loose and I'm not a big fan of the liner lock. I think a lockback mechanism would be much better. Otherwise, it is a great knife and I am very pleased.
The knife blade is very good but the handle are not.The handle is not to strong, very thin liner and rubberized handle do not strong enough ,the result is a big amount of play in the blade .Please increase liner thickness and pivot screw and made it rock solid knife.
This knife blade has very little wiggle room where blade is coneccted to handle, when is fully opened. If moved in any direction if any at all took close examination to notice the slight movement a human hair (solid blade). The handle is very strong and has the right amount of flexibility so it will not break.(strong handle). Fine edge has very good sharpness even angels and no burr(very sharp Quality edge). Serration edge is sharper no burr both fine edge and surrations sharpened with a very fine grit. The knife opens fast with a flick of the wrist. Everything lines up properly there are no nicks or places that needed to be ground out. Remember this is a out of box review
I received this knife as a Christmas present from my parents. I absolutely think this knife is the best one y'all have made so far. There is a small amount of play in the blade but it is not a big deal.
I'm left hander and i found that it's hard to close a knife with a liner lock so pls make a lockback mechanism pls and take my money , love u gerber
I bought this knife because of the blade design and material. I do not like tanto blades. This modified tanto point seems to have all the benefits of a regular tanto without the small disadvantage of being difficult to sharpen. the only thing I do not like is that there is a small amount of play in the blade.
I purchased this knife about a week ago and was very excited. The blade came razor sharp probably just as sharp as a razor used to shave, and the glass breaker is a bonus. My first thoughts were how awesome this knife would be and that it could replace my EDC blade that as a glass breaker as well as a flipper opening mechanism but I'm still hesitant. This blade is much sharper but it's a matter of deployment and quality.
Deploying the blade is hard, the action is very stiff and it cannot be opened using just the flipper unless you're gonna throw all your power into a flick of your wrist. Also the pocket clip moves so much it doesn't feel reliable. In fact I switched the pocket clip to tip up carry and the threading for the screw stripped and the screw fell out.
The design is great but things can be changed. First off it should have a better bearing system to allow for fast deployment like the bearings in the Instant or Venture. Second the pocket clip should not move and the places where the pocket clip meets the handle should be metal and the points where the screws go in as well as the screws should be stronger.
I love Gerber and always have one of their products on me but this was a let down.
excellent blade..awesome folding knife
I use this knife to cut through multiple sheets of plastic with ease. It just does not get better than this. Sharpens easy and retains the edge for a long time. Could not ask for more.
I owned just about all Gerber pocket knives and this one is the best from Gerber
The Gerber Decree is by far the best tactical knife I own. The S30V steel blade can be compared to $300 dollar knives with a better look and feel than a Kershaw or Benchmade. BUILT WITH AMERICAN LABOR. Thank you Gerber Gear.
The knife is sexy looking to start. The overall feel in the hand is great. S30V is awesome steel used for the blade. My only issue with the one I got is the amount of slop in the blade when deployed open. The lock fully engages however there is some up and down movement and locking bar flexing that makes me question the integrity of the lock. The blade seems to rock a little on the locking surface of the liner lock bar. I wonder if it’s just the one I received from Amazon where I had ordered it. I do love the knife and its features but I would not be truthful to say I’m totally confident in the lock.
Pros: Great knife, love the s30v steal, nice size for an EDC, sharp as crap, feels great, clip can be changed from blade down or up. And it's made in America! .
Cons: slightly wide and not because of quality but when it's closed and you shake it it makes a small taping noise not as much a rattle.
DO NOT LET THESE CON'S PREVENT YOU FROM BUYING THIS KNIFE!
It is very good and worth the purchase, its my new favorite EDC.
- First impression: looks awesome, really comfortable to hold.
- Stabs through sheet metal with VERY little effort.
- Saws halfway through 1 1/2” schedule 40 PVC in about 5min.
- Glass breaker would be awesome in an emergency…haven’t tested it, but maybe I can track down an ex-girlfriends car and give the windshield a good whack.
- Practical everyday use (opening mail and packages with elite badassery) are on point.
- S30V MODIFIED TANTO Blade is rad!
- One hand opening is difficult from the thumb stud.
- One hand closing is difficult from the thumb lock.
- Was hoping it’d be a good replacement everyday carry to my Buck Hunter, but I think I’ll carry the Buck a bit longer.
- Lowering the thumb stud the tiniest bit would give better leverage for opening.
- Exposing the thumb lock a bit would allow for better access when closing.
3.5/5stars is more accurate. After the modifications, it's 5/5 for sure! Practical consumer use for a consumer product is really important, despite the tactical advantages, it's still available to everyone.
Gerber, take my money.
What an awesome design.
Terrible Quality Piece of junk
Excellent blade, rugged and razor sharp, great for edc. The handle fits the hand comfortably. Couldn't ask for a better knife at this price.
