In the urban warfare environment, soliders recognized the need for a close quarter combat knife. After studying and interviewing hundreds of real life hand-to-hand combat encounters, MACP Close Quarter Combat expert Matt Larsen worked with award-winning knife makers Chris Reeve and William W. Harsey Jr. to create the L.H.R. The quick-release sheath has a built-in safety release that can only release the knife by the wearer. The textured TacHide handle provides sure grip in wet conditions. Proudly made in U.S.A.
the knife is well balance, ergonomics good as well as the handle material can be held with a solid grip even when wet. However the blade finish wears off easily in dirty/sandy environments as well as the geometry of the grind does not make for a good cutting edge. However as it is considered a combat knife I will say it does have good penetration, and has worked as a throwing knife due to the good balance and tip grind. I originally considered it as a survival knife however you can get a much better knife for that purpose at a better price point.
This a great combat knife. I own several of the LHR - I try to buy one every time I see one on eBay... And that's the problem. Please, bring the LHR back. It was a phenomenally well designed, and well made knife.
Been looking for this knife for a while but can't find it anywhere only to discover that it's been discontinued. Why would you discontinue such a good knife that's still in demand. Gerber please bring it back.
Please Gerber bring this knife back! I am trying to find this knife everywhere it but i cant find it! Last time i saw it was it in a webstore for 200 euros and i was still willing to pay this amount of money just to be able to own this beaty in my hands, but unfortunately they told me it was out of stock and the had not updated their site! Please gerber bring it back!
For me, this is the perfect knife, it has an exposed tang, ergonomic handle, long blade enough for combat, good blade thickness, 440c steel whit a decent heat treatment and made in usa, but gerber discontinued it
What a fantistic knife. I carried this on several tours down range. I was really surprised when it was discontinued. I really wanted to buy one for my son who is now enlisted. I like the sheath, very positive and secure. Hate the Bear Grylis knife. Bring it back so I can buy another one for the son. Thanks
I have been looking for this knife for many years now, and I have not been able to find it anywhere. Why would you discontinue this knife? It is obviously a huge market for it, and seems to be one of the very best knifes on the market (no longer though) :(
Please bring it back. I also agree with Jon E.
I will never buy the Bear Grylls knife, but I will buy the LHR.
Please bring it back!
if they brought this back I somehow think they wouldn't sell many silver tridents.. regardless, I would think they would make up for this with the quantity of LHRs sold.
Unfortunately it seems the company wants to make crappy "tactical" folders instead. Honestly, I can't count how many listings of the same damn signed blade folder there are on here. Gerber, you only need to make half a dozen to a dozen different knives. you don't need 206 different knife models, just a few really, really well-made ones. bring back the mark 1, there's your boot knife. bring this back, there's your multipurpose combat knife. one folder, one auto, one diving, one tanto fixed blade, one general purpose fixed-blade (like your new gator), one machete, one "survival" knife (bg), one serrated bowie whatever for the macho folks.. (I'm stretching here, I've already run out of ideas and I've been through your knife inventory 5 times over the past couple days)
quality, not quantity. Live by it or your company will suffer, and eventually die. just how it is.
You've basically reduced this knife to be a collector's knife. Why? This is a working man's knife. A COMBAT knife. Without replacements, people aren't going to want to use their existing knives as harshly as intended for fear of loss. Do you hate making money? Apparently so.
This is the knife I really wanted to own and could not believe that it was discontinued. I made several attempts to locate one but everyone was out of stock so I gave up. Today I stop by a pawn shop in San Marcos, TX to see what they had in the way of knives. When I looked into the case I was looking straight at a like new Gerber LHR W/Sheath. It was absolutely beautiful. It was the fastest buy I have ever made. Gerber, bring it back!
Best knife I ever owned. It was stolen out of my car along with a ton of other stuff. Really want to own this knife again.
I am very sorry that Gerber discontinued this knife and is unwilling to bring it back. From what I have heard this is because the company bought the Bear Grylls license for survival knives and did not want this knife interfering with sales. If this is the case folks at Gerber, then please consider this: I, and many other like me, will never buy the Bear Grylls knife, but we will buy the LHR. In attempting to avoid competing with yourself, you are losing profit. Please bring this knife back. There is obviously a demand.
I agree that this knife is the close thing to Ideal for combat and survival.. I would like to know if or when you will bring this back OR as a business owner I would bring back this knife with up grades under another model number such as Kydex sheath, get rid of the one inch serrations and maybe make the pummel; point i/4 inch longer.. by doing this you will keep the 30-000183 in it's collectible status while generating new sales with those like me that missed the boat..
I am sure you thought about this so I will say, give thought about revisiting that possibility
Thank you for your time
I've been looking for a great all around knife and I have decided that this is one of the best knifes for the price out their but I cant buy one so please bring it back
The best knife ive ever owned. Ive owned buckmaster 184s and Gerber BMFs SOG seal 2000. This is one badass blade. I must say though that i had a custom leather sheath made and now its more comfortable to carry
Simply hands down the best knife I have ever owned but I have to agree it is too valuable to carry. My carry replacement is now the Buck Hoodlum
I absolutely love this knife, but I can't carry it in the field because it's irreplacable now. Too bad. It's such a great knife and is my hands down preference over a Ka-Bar.
This is a fantastic knife, love it and want another one. Please bring it back with other sheath options. I like the sheath that comes with it but a black leather sheath would be really cool too.
I own the Silver trident, it is a great knife but from what I have reviewed, this is a much better knife. Please bring this knife back. If anyone knows a knife maker with Gerber please let them know.
i should have bought two of these when i had the chance i like my lhr and its works as hard as any other top shelf knife out there
please bring this knife back this is a knife would take a permanent place in my gear. The closest I've gotten to this is the lmf2.
Owning this knife is a great piece to any operators gear. I felt when you discontinued this knife you had dropped a valuable item from your line up. The safety feature of the sheath alone was a fantastic concept and now your competitors are beginning to implement this into their systems. Had you offered a Left hand version and non serrated edge along with this system, this could have been one of your all time best selling knives. You see these reviews and people are practically begging you bring it back unless you have agreements with the original designers that we don't know about, making it impossible for you to continue manufacturing it.
I already have the silver trident but I always wanted this knife and can't even find one used. At least post a reason for discontinuing it. Or better yet, just produce them again for a limited time...
this is a tool tthatt is far more knife than many, the shethi is truly a peace of gear ,multi mounting postions vary secure in all posible phisical outcomes.
One of your best knife designs. I have one, and it's my favorite piece. I think this blade deserves another run.
I own several hundreds of dollars’ worth of Gerber knives. But this disappoints me. They are infamous for discontinuing top-shelf products while leaving no comparable alternative. They did the same with the BMF. During Operation Desert Shield countless servicemen wanted to deploy with a BMF in their kit. Shortly thereafter, it was gone, discontinued. Now they have done the same thing with the LHR. The only somewhat workable alternative is the Silver Trident; however, this knife is so ridiculously overpriced that many would undoubtedly choose a different brand rather than pay such a steep price.
I'm in the process of looking for a new knife and my friend has one of these and after borrowing it for a bit I really liked it. I want to get one of my own but looking through the reviews it appears you guys have discontinued it and didn't release a new version of it as a replacement. I'd be one of the first to get it if you bring it back. Otherwise I guess I'll go get another Ka-Bar instead.
I must second, third, fourth.........who knows how many people I'm following. I want one of these in a bad kinda way also. Don't make me get some other brand of big arse knife to have next to my other Gerbers!!!!!!
Discontinued??? I will buy several if you bring it back! Such an amazing instrument/knife/weapon/hand extension.
BRING BACK THIS KNIFE. Why would a company discontinue what is undoubtedly and also recognized as one of the top ten tactical knives in the world?
I wear this knife on my thigh when I go backpacking in mountain parks. We can't bring guns into our parks, so this riding on my leg is my last line of defence in animal encounters. It feels good in the hand, has a balance that ought to be envied, and because of its low ride it doesn't interfere with my pack like a belt-knife would. It's always there when I need it. I carry it alongside a Prodigy (for utility) which I wear on my shoulder harness when trekking, and revert to as my hip-carry once we've reached base-camp.
Please bring back this beautifully crafted. knife. I have been a life long Gerber customer and I truly would like to have this knife in my Gerber collection. l
Are you guys at Gerber riding the short bus or something? Do you not see the amount of love people have for this knife? It was one of THE best knives produced by your company and you DISCONTINUED it?? BRING BACK THE LHR...
I bought the William Harsey Jr designed spartan blades difenza knife. The LHR is similar. Just feels good in hand and is made from CPM S35VN material. The LHR needs new blade material. Build it and we will buy it.
and you discontinue it? Seriously?
I'll take two as soon as you bring this knife back.
Gerber has some serious management issues with mostly cheap materials in your lines and discontinuing great products while continuing to make garbage like the Bear Grylls line.
I have used Gerber blades since my first Mark II during the Vietnam war. That is changing.
Please bring this knife back! I've been waiting for so long thinking that it would be re-stocked at some point. This was one of your best designs ever.
Just purchased two of these knives from Platatac in Australia. Was disappointed when they were discontinued and couldn't even locate on eBay. What an incredible piece of equipment. Sturdy. Handles well. Sheath is also well constructed. Really wonder why you discontinued it in the first place, as it is a work of art.
I've had the luxury of holding one of these in my hands, but to buy another it is discontinued! Please bring us back the knife to buy!
let me answer that. Since MARCH 2013 people are posting to bring this Amazing, Gorgeous peace of art back to life.
I have never ever seen something like that quality and for that price. This will be my third time I beg you to bring back this knife. FOR GOD SAKE BRING IT BACK. Or at least give a reasonable cause why you guys dont bring it back.
I mean the demand for this knife is soooo high i am shocked that you guys didnt bring it back or even stopped producing it!!!! BRING IT BACKKKK. I am tired waiting
Gerber pulled it off the shelves before I had a chance to buy it. Please bring it back. The sooner Gerber brings it back, the sooner I'll buy it. Maybe change the name of the knife to avoid any entanglement but please bring it back soon
I have tried finding this knife everywhere and cannot. I'm kicking myself now for not buying it when I had the chance. Please bring this knife back I'm going crazy trying to fun this knife even used.
Why do companies always get rid of products that are made so well. Cars that were made in the fifties and sixties are still on the road where as newer cars last about ten years at most. The same goes for the LHR, a knife that has all the functions and the ability to withstand all kinds of treatment, For those who had the knife but lost it, getting one back is now impossible.
I hope Gerber is smart enough to bring this knife back. And please, if you mess with the sheath keep the retention feature. The people who don't like it are not the ones whose life is on the line.
PLEASE BRING THE GERBER LHR BACK. I REGRET MISSING IT AND WANT TO BUY A FEW AS SOON AS THEY ARE RELEASED AGAIN
I purchased this knife when it was first released and love it.
I would like to purchase more of them for my family, but I noticed they're no longer available.
Is there a reason why?
I agree with the rest, bring back the best. I've done a lot of research on quality survival knives and this is the one I want and can't find anywhere. Please bring it back. I'm ready to buy it.
please bring it back my father and I just found this and want two so with that said. Please o please bring this awesome knife back and make my Christmas wish come true!
P.S. if u have two laying around send em to rhode island
This is one of the best gerber knives I own. The locking system on the sheath is awesome and the blade itself is thick, sharp, and feels perfect in your hand. But why discontinued?
Discontinued!? The LHR is the only reason i am on this website. Bring it back and restore my faith in Gerber.
Took it on a deployment with me and I gotta say, this thing was everything and more. If you can find one hold on to it because you'll never find a knife like this again. Very versatile and incredibly strong.
One of the best knives Gerber has ever produced, and it's suddenly discontinued?
Please, Gerber, work out whatever snafus with Larsen, Harsey & Reeve might have led to the discontinuation, and bring back this great knife!
I got one of these as a present to myself and I have to say wow. It is a beautiful knife with an amazing feel. The sheath is innovative and trustworthy. It's a little hard to put back in but the the draw is easy (after all, that's the action that matters most) Since it was discontinued, I'm afraid to use it since if I lost it I would be unable to get a new one. Glad I got it when I did!!
I am on my 5th deployment and have looked everywhere for this knife, as far as the UK and Slovakia even, with no luck. I've placed orders with many suppliers only to find that their websites incorrectly listed the knife as available. I need a replacement to add to my kit. I can't even find used and beat up knives. I lost my original, given to me as a gift, during my 3rd deployment. Great knife! Great tool! Bring it back!
Why do you guys seem to discountinue the best knives you make? Please bring this knife back, or remodel it and bring it back. It is perfected by craftsmanship, and the quality is outstanding, please bring it back. From a Gerber fan.
I have had this knife for a good mounth now and used it for days at a time and this knife never let me down, I used it for opening tin cans and choping trees and even threw the thing and it kept going not even wrecking the tip of the blade! I would totally recommend this knife for a survival blade or bush crafting.
I carried an LHR through my last deployment to Iraq. Definitely the best tactical knife on the market.
Started looking for this blade awhile back, and was irritated at first that Gerber had discontinued it. However, was able to find it on Amazon being sold by none other than... Gerber!!! Get it while you can, this is probably one of the best knives I've owned!
I had one and sold it to my cousin. What a mistake. What is Gerber thinking? Why on earth would Gerber discontinue their best product???
I WISH THAT U,,,, WOULD BRING BACK THE L.H.R. THAT MY BROTHER MAY OWN 1,,, One DAY THAT I CAN OWN TOOO,,,,,,,,,, REALLLLLLLLLY WANT U GUYS TOO,,, BACK O.K. PLEASE BRING THE L.H.R. PLEASE IN THE OF GOD.?????????BRING IT FOR ME PLEASE...... LORD GOD PLEASE....???/??
Why does Gerber always Discontinue the best knives??? Gah, first the wood handled freeman and now this? How frustrating, i really wanted to add one of these to my collection.
So many people love this knife and so do I. Bring it back!!! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing wrong with the sheath. Just grip the knife normally and let your thumb push into the quick release tab which seperates it from the knife. Then slide the whole knife out
I bought this knife for a second tour in afghan. Feels sturdy and th sheath is very strong. I messed the sheath up trying to clean dirt out of it and lost the screws. Gerber sent me a complimentary sheath!! I have been a customer since I joined the Army in 2008 and this gesture will make me continue to by your products!
Great knife, just got it on eBay. But the sheath is a big problem. The knife itself is utterly amazing, but for 60 more I could get the trident, but its all a matter of opinion now. Still, when they have a better sheath, i will make gerber give me a new one.
The LHR is both functional and a beautiful work of art. Attached at the hip is quite intimidating to all who view, warning enough in most cases.
For the love of knives, make this available in a plain edge Gerber! I would gladly rec this product if so! Keep up the fight.
I agree with DENYS make a plain edged version please it just makes sense doesn't it? you guys are amazing.
I like the LHR a lot she feels great in the hand like it belongs there and the sheath is well thought out thanks Gerber
I beg you guys, make all of your knives in both plain and serated versions, you see wich sell better. Why you keep doing that noncense, serations have very limited range of use, and its a pain in a A** to sharpen it!!! (((
As a knife collector, i own the CRK Neil Roberts wich i consider being the nicest of the pacific/green beret series of outstanding Chris Reeve knives. Now discontined and worthing more than 2 time , i definitly prefer this Gerber LHR for its design, handling qualities, quickness, elegance of shape. Not convinced first with the sheath, its finally a really great one, very secure . As always with Gerber, innovation, attention to details and a price tag allowing the best for a knife fan : to bring and use it without fear to scrath the mirror finish of your thousand dollar custom knife ! I assume this knife will belong to the classics, as a Randall 1-7, an Al Mar sere or warrior, an applegate ou 'FS' dagger. . Superior example of modern american cutlery. Good job Gerber.
This Knife is alright for its use for military hacker, as far as edge retention its almost impossible to have it dull quickly with a grind like it has. But if it was higher quality steel the edge could be finer and maintain the same edge retention. Blade geometry makes a huge differance with the edge retention. I was kind of disappointed with how its held an edge, and not telling me the model of steel used makes me question the consistency of the steel quallity. Not seeing a familiar cmp-s30v or cpm-d2 of even a 440c throws the quality into question. yes this knife is solid yes teh sheath is nice but i would like to see it hold an edge longer with a "named" steel. i would buy this knife if i wanted to beat the crap out of a blade, not for how long it holds an edge. Military can be hard as hell on their gear so for that they have been successful
Just received the Gerber LHR. Incredible knife. Well-made, great balance, and strong enough to easily handle what it was designed for. The high-tech sheath is a big plus. One of the best no-nonsense combat knife/sheath combos on the planet.
I love this knife, its great for just about anything. Only downside is the black finish wears off, but other than that great knife.
Sweet knife. I have been a gerber fan since the 80's when i got my first silver knight. I was impessed with the balance of the blade. It's a very sexy knife. I think i will keep it.
I use this knife for hunting, and this is the first knife that can cut up a whole elk and still keep a razor sharp edge. Was definitely worth the money I paid for it!!
I have had the LHR for sometime. Carried it in Afghanistan and the shear site of it made people take notice. Perfectly balanced full tang, the handle has great grip and the sheath is super secure.
There is NO EQUAL!!
Literally, this knife was on my side as I went down due to an oil slick on a freeway on ramp and saved my side from serious road rash. At over 70mph sliding on my side this knife stayed in the sheath and was surprisingly unscathed. I will be ordering a ne
