Tough and ever at the ready, this knife was developed to confidently handle tactical situations. The tanto blade is deployed at lightning speed with the FAST opening mechanism, while the textured G-10 handle keeps the knife securely in hand.
Tactical and tough. That's what you get with the 06 F.A.S.T., a quick opening knife with G-10 handles for extra grip when wet. The Tanto shaped blade is designed for thrusting.
I've carried an 06 fast for going on five years now it's one of the better folders I've used, it's reliable it holds an edge pretty well, and overall it's not bad for the price range. My only issue with the fast is it doesn't share the same level of craftsmanship and attention to detail as the 06 auto. The fast feels like a cheap Chinese knock off when compared to its big Brother, and that's incredibly disappointing.
i purchased this knife and was impressed by the weight, shape, and feel of it, but that feeling was quickly diminished. there is extreme blade wobble, and the steel is horrible. i have had many knives with the 7cr7mov steel and i kind of like it, but on this the serrations were chipped and bent after cutting through 1 cardboard box. to sum it up, i am afraid to use any force on this knife because it feels very delicate, yet it loos so beefy and feels nice and heavy
I've owned this knife for about 3 years now, it became my EDC when I sent in my Gerber Covert in for repairs after 6 years of daily (heavy) use. I get nothing but compliments when I pull this thing out. The FAST action assist works flawlessly and with some spunk due to the size and weight of the knife (which I also love). This isn't for the prissy "I carry a knife but rarely use it" kind of guy. I use my blades multiple times a day and all 3 of my Gerbers have held up to the test of time. I plan on purchasing the new "[auto] Down Range" very soon. Kind of sucks that I have to purchase online elsewhere due to Gerbers restrictions on purchasing their automatic blades. Even though there are NO RESTRICTIONS on the state I live in though..
Had this knife for a year, locking mechanism broke sent back for repairs, still blade is very floppy and knife opens up in pocket. Stabbed finger multiple times. SOG is a better choice.
I have the military Automatic Open knife, but wanted an assisted open to keep in the car. I thought this was similar, but I am very disappointed. Shame on Gerber for putting their name on China-made knives. This knife is junk. It's too light, and has a terrible locking/unlocking mechanism that is not smooth nor safe.
I love this knife! I've always carried Gerber Knifes & only Gerber Knifes. This is by far my favorite over the paraframe type. I live the spring loaded blade with the button lock. My only bone to pick with this particular knife is out bulky it is & the pocket clip is upside down & too tight. But other than that I LOVE IT.
I had got my first one from a friend spring got lose but sent it in an got another one an it's been with me for awhile now I use it as my edc I wouldn't have any other blade thanks gerber
amazing gift received from unit 173. came with 1.5ft' 550 lanyard with 3/4" steel bearing monkeysfist attached to my Tanto that I loved. lock failed, 3 torque screws under grip separated from frame. top, bottom, inside center causing spring to detach and blade to swing freely. location of the failed screws shows no sign s of stress wear nor any damage. just failed to hold.most torques in casing (#6 star) failed strength to hold its shape therefore stripped in attempt to disassemble. after research discovered hardware and materials used is weak, and made very cheap in bulk assembly line production in China. which explains a lot. no idea nor care the cost of my gift. but i damn didn't expect the Goddamn thing to fall apart and couldn't open to fix bearing the Gerber name! Which is why you spent 80 bucks on a $20 flea market junk with a decent design with "military issue" stamp, i now know "Gerber" thinks about US military and I.. decent leatherman however LMAO!
This knife keeps a sharp edge for a while, has good fast opening and is overall pretty sturdy. The clip is too stiff to clip on to anything but good enough for edc
I like the sturdiness and tightness of the blade, i'm in my first week.
Purchased at Walmart.
However, the slide-lock that releases the blade is not smooth and can be very difficult to move up/down. Other times it is smooth.
I will return this knife to the store and try to purchase else where hoping the slide is smoother.
I own two of these, one bought new and one from a pawn shop. Both are very rugged, have very sturdy lockup, and open very fast and easy. The blade is my problem, after a couple weeks of use I haven't been able to put a sharp edge back on either. If they were sharp this knife would be a perfect large EDC.
Not worth the price but is decent. Does not keep keep an edge very well and blade develops wobble. These two alone make this a secondary EDC and not a primary. Please improve.
I bought this knife and I fell in love right away. I buy a good knife every few years and use it till it falls apart and this is one I know will last me a while!! Thanks gerber for the great product.
I bought this knife from Walmart for around $55. Works great, fast to open, sharp blade, love the G-10 handle. The blade wiggles a little bit. Currently is my EDC knife for work!
I loved the knife at first however after using it on a bit of bamboo the aeration has just disappeared, worn down after one use?
I love this knife I also had for 5 or 6 years I recently broke the handle the Locke would not work sent it in and they gave me the new one looks the same but I swear it's lighter well c how it goes but over all I love this knife
9/10 under my situation, 10/10 product.
bought one from a local walmart for 50 dollars, and the slide was horribly stiff, after working the action, it loosend up, but i went in and re greased it to make it smoother.
my serations were also improperly trimmed, and the tips were bent on a few serrations.
with that aside, its the best knife i've ever bought, and is currently missing. i recently lost a kershaw i bought to replace it, and i cant stop thinking about this knife.
Got this to replace the last Gerber Tanto I lost while fishing. Great knife all around, blade, opening, lock, everything is as good as it gets in a folder, but a word of Advice- it has lanyard hole for a reason! So use it!
An excellent knife to have for everyday use. Grip feels secure, serration is a plus, extremely durable. The end tip of handle can also be used to break glass. Love my Gerber...
I have had more expensive knives. But the way this knife is built is exactly why I love it. I only wish they they would have used a better steel for the blade. It is a great work and defensive/offensive knife. I also love how I am able to manipulate it one handed with ease no matter what direction is turn, I can even throw the blade with my pinky finger which comes in handy for fast deployment when pulling from the pocket. Gerber, please make this knife with a better steel, I will pay more, and no I don't want this in a auto knife.
I've carried this for over 5 years if not more. Dependable, sharp and well balanced. Grip is good too.
I bought this knife last summer. Its my EDC knife.
Walmart had a great price on it in the store - around $55.
I just saw that they have it online for $50.79 free shipping.
Funny story about buying it. The guy that rang it up forgot to take care of the sensor tag so "alarms" went off when I exited. The young lady's eyes who checked my bag went big when she saw the knife.
Come on guys. Had to oil it up to get it to work. Not a drop of oil on it when I got it. Wouldn't even open. Also the pivot screw is to small to stand up to serious use.Very disappointed. Use to think you guys were the MAN. Not so much lately.
Got this for my work and protection since i walk to work , it works great! I have to cut rope, break down box's and cut through tough plastic bags and duck tape and this knife cuts through them all with ease also it looks badass!
Had this knife for about 2 weeks. Used it around the house every day. No problem. I was at work building a guest house for my buddy and was going to install a washer. I cut open the bottom of the box and as I was doing this, I was pulling on the blade and the handle. Got up, closed the knife and reopened it then the blade had an unbelievable amount of play in it. Maybe I got a dud or something.
I own a moving company and work on many jobs myself. This is one of many knives I have used to cut boxes, rope, etc.
Pro's: Grips well and feels comfortable in hand. Opens very quickly with one hand. Out of the box the blade is very sharp. Definitely a bad ass looking knife.
Con's: After 1-3 months of usage there is significant blade play. Tip of knife seems to be weak and bent slightly. Blade chips and does not seem very durable. Blade becomes dull very quickly. This is a right handed only knife and as an EDC is woukd be nice if they put the belt clip a little higher on the knife so not as much of the knife would be exposed when in pocket. Special tools are required to take apart knife.
Girlfriend got me this knife for my birthday. Comes razor sharp and cuts threw paper with ease right out of the box. No blade play. Great grippy handle and opens fast as hell. Would deffinetly recommend this knife. It looks deadly too.
great knife holds edge very well would be my edc if it was smaller but then i wear skinny jeans i prefer a sog cash card but when i go fishing i take this with me
Great knife! It stood up to a summer of intense outdoor use and didn't disappoint at all. One of the best knives I've ever had, and is currently my EDC.
This knife is awesome...I owned my first one for over 7 years...The day that I lost it...I felt horrible. That knife had been through a lot of with me and was still just as good as the day it was purchased. My blade had worn down approx. 3/16" but considering what all I used it for...that's nothing. I literally used this knife for everything...A guy I work with used mine a couple times while we were working together and went out and bought his own...I would highly suggest this knife to anyone who wants a durable blade. It also fits very well into my carpenter jeans...on the right side. Clips in perfectly for quick access. No you want lose it there...I carried mine there for years.
Well, I have had it for months with lots of use and love it, don't use it for a screwdriver or to pry with and you won't have any blade wiggle plus you can tighten it up by the scew on the side!
I don't know if I got lucky or not but I have had great luck with this knife mine has no play in it and I have used it well over year now.
The knife has blade play up and down side to side this is not safe I do not use it all the time this is very disappointing
Bought the knife today and can't be more impressed with it. Came extremely sharp and has no flaws to the locking. It stays firm with now rattling.
This knife has so much side to side wiggle in the blade. This has been the issue with every gerber knife i have ever owned. Will most likely never purchase another knife made by gerber again. Its a shame because this knife is very well designed, opens lightning quick, great g10 handle. I dont know if its quality control at gerber or what.
This is my 2nd 06 fast. Great knife. Fits my hand excellently. Lost my last one to TSA. Rats!! Loved the last knife. Danielle have high expectation for this one.
This knife is great and it's done the work I needed it to do but over time the blade got loose and has a little wobble to it. I tried tightening the screws but they won't get any tighter. I'm wondering if this is something gerber can fix for me under their warranty??
Gerber has gone far downhill since the day I received my first Gerber over 15 years ago.
This knife will do the job, but it is not worth the 65 bucks I spent on it. The plastic feels chintzy and they don't even say what kind of steel they used on the blade.
Gerber needs to stop with this pop culture, Bear Grylls mumbo-jumbo and go back to basics.
Wanted a model 06 but had to try this one out for the price point. Been using it for EDC and haven't been disappointed. I read all the mixed reviews and purchased it regardless of the negative comments. I like this knife a lot.....
Love the knife I had it for almost a year and stays sharp grips flawlessly just an all around good knife love the quick open would buy another one
Wife got it for me for Christmas and I love it. Works very well love the grip on it. Wonderful for work.
Thought it would be like the 06 auto, but it is actually a knockoff. Locking switch feels like its going to break every time i use it and doesn't hold an edge. I expected a lot more for quality.
Had the knife 1day. Lock & mechanism is tight & great. The finish isn't stellar but it works. Very good grips, comfy in most hand sizes and very secure grip. Sharpens well and mine doesn't dull quickly as I have heard others claim theirs do. Perhaps i received an exception or they got a dud. Very pleased
I am disappointed in this knife... it was given to me for fathers day. I was very excited to get a new knife (my Kershaw was 4 years old)... I used it to make hot dog roasting sticks and every day use... when I used it to cut some bamboo (about 1-2" thick) the serations got bent up.... After about 2 months of using -the blade is now wobbly.. I am going to upgrade to the military version with the S30V steel and see how that works.
I got this knife years ago for my brother he took it when he was deployed. he put a lot of work in on it over seas and gave it to me when he came back, and I have had it for about a year and a half and love it. I use it as my edc and treat it like crap (even as a hammer). I just beat on at work all day and no matter what I do to it still works and stay ridged when open. don't get me wrong I put a stone to it every once and a while, but I LOVE this knife. to the point I got two more unopened just in case they stop making them and mine breaks.
I've had this knife for 3 years now. I've had no problems at all with it. The other bad reviews have never been a problem for me. I work in a body shop and I have used this knife for countless tasks.
We bought this knife for my son about one year ago. He loves it and I am envious. Read the two negative reviews and have to say neither matches our experience. The knife holds a nice edge with normal use, the locking mechanism is positive and works well. All in all a fine cutting instrument that fits well in the hand. Of course, we haven't tried shoving it through metal to test the finish, but then that's not normal use, so why would we?
My wife bought me this knife and wasn't very fond of it at first but quickly fell in love with it.It is Rock solid ,nice weight and feels real good. Its my go to knife i even bought a second for my collection
This knife seemed like the perfect fit for me. Good size, comfortable ergonomics, nice lock mech, but then it became a pain to resharpen every day and I dropped it in the sand at work. Until I took it apart to clean it, the damn thing didn't even close. It was dangerous to carry. The blade is never going to stop having play in it and now that I took it apart, it's gotten worse. I own about 5 or 6 gerbers and this is one of my favorites, but I'm really disappointed in the blade. Handle feels great, but you've got to fix that blade. I paid 60$ for it and I paid 35$ for a different brand with better steel. Damn near the same knife too. Shame on you Gerber.
always loved the look of the knife and wanted one for a long time the handle and locking mechanism are phenomenal but that's about the only good thing about this knife. for just some basic testing of the blade i poked through a empty soda can the finish is scratched to heck, and the edge is gone after only 3 days of general edc use. i am disappointing in Gerber on this one i own about 10 other Gerber products and this is the only one i would give a bad review.
Had this knife for a long time. Got it as a present from my boyfriend who wanted me to keep it on my person why he deploys to Afghanistan. Great guy. I use this knife for just about everything. Ive never had a problem with the spring or it even seeming like it was dulling. Never had to tighten any screws. Don't know about everyone else but this knife is excellent. I'll definitely keep this as my daily companion, even when I buy an even better tactical knife.
Ordered one this week and what I got was a total waste of money. Looks and feels cheaply made, blade did not lock in place once opened, then when it did "lock" still had a lot of play so it felt like it would close on its own. It then got stuck open and I had to really work to close it by messing with button release for a while. A real shame because I love my LMF II. This, however, was a HUGE let down.
Most definitely a badass knife, well equipped for "doing the nasty". I have had a number of blades in my career and I can truthfully say this Gerber GETS THE JOB DONE. So yeah, for sure, buy one for your son. Hell buy two.
This is a overall BADASS tactical knife, everybody who uses and carries a knife, then to all this is a nobrainer, a must have for any and every occasion.....I just bought mine today and so far I must admit the best pocket knife I've ever owned and held, and also...since this knife and very well known and trusted gerber brand comes with a life time warranty, ill never have to look for or purchase another knife again...so to everyone who currently doesn't own this particular knife or any gerber brand knife....my advice to you all...quit reading this and get to ordering!!!
I have had this knife for over a year, and it is the best knife that I own, out of many other name-brand knives. The AO mechanism has withstood hard use and I have not had any problems with it. The safety took some breaking in, and functioned very well after a week (and functions just as well now). Blade steel is good-enough, holds a sharp edge for a hard week of use/training exercise. One of the overlooked benefits of this knife is its ease of carry. It is very slim and relatively light, although not very easily concealed due to the protruding glass-breaker. I would pay way over $100 for a 52100 version of this knife, but $60-80 for this knife is well-worth it.
I got this knife last week and it is perfect, the lock up is amazing and it is really worth the price. I love it!!!!
This knife is a good knife other then the steel being soft and the blade doesn't hold its edge at all.
The blade on mine came loose, dangerously loose. At first it was incredible, held a great edge, flicked open with purpose. I was told it was the military SV30 steel version but found out too late the dealer lied to me and sold me the much cheaper civilian model at much elevated price.
I'd love the knife if it didn't seem to be so rickety and breakable.
I will say that Gerber has a wonderful customer service team and they made the situation right.
I carried it in the field, no problems, let a buddy use it on a deployment and the blade is extremely loose, dull, gritty and rust in a few areas. This knife was designed for MILITARY use, right ? Ther blade is SUPPOSED vg10 or some type of super steel, I think I was sent the civilian model and not the military one.
To beat it all I can't seem to reach any REAL Gerber warranty people. Everyone keeps telling me to call here and then there. They keep passing the buck on their supposed "Lifetime Warranty".
I can't get ANY help at all.
Good knife. Haven't had to sharpen yet and I've had to cut random stuff from , 550 cord to burlap sacks and it hasn't failed me yet. The lock buttons will sometimes stick on mine but it's not a major issue. I'd rate this knife a 10/10 for cutting and an 8/10 for all around engineering.
I bought this knife at walmart a few weeks ago. I liked the handle. G10 is just great stuff. It opens very slow and makes a grinding spund when it does open. The metal not only looks very soft, but even feels very soft. That and the safety lock was very loose. It snaped out of safety ok but was very loose going back in. I took it back and got an instant. I love the new instant
Don't waste your money, steel is really soft and blade folds and needs resharpening every time I used it. I bought it becuase I was issued the 06 auto and wanted a non auto knife for civilian carry that was as great as my 06. feels cheap and doughy. G10 doesn't feel as solid as the aluminum handles on my 06
Good knife for the price. Ergonomic for an adult male hand; including lock button and clip. Opens smooth and stays locked. Looses edge somewhat quickly, but it has become my "everyday" knife. I bought it at a lower price though; 50ish.
I used this knife in the field, i have to say that it does not do it all the tip of the blade is dented just from stabbing ice and the blade is to soft for my liking i am going to swap it for my every day carry and us another folding knife. But all round i do like the look and feel of this knife and i do recommend it for every day use.
I have the civilian (not military issue) version of this knife. Soft steel makes for easy sharpening with rocks in the field. However, it does dull early and often. Coating does give a pretty good corrosion resistance. I recommend removing all screws, applying loc-tite, and re-installing when you get the knife. I feel engineering was excellent, but materials were sub-par. Overall, I feel this knife should cost at least $20 less.
ive had this knife for well over a year and use it as my every day carry knife. i break about 70% of everything i get my hands on and i really tried to put gerbers lifetime warranty to the test. but it looks like ill have this in my pocket for many years to come. my only gripe is it loses its edge quickly with moderate to heavy daily use but for a stamped knife for under $100 you cant go wrong.
This knife is not worth the money you pay for it. The handle is very well built, but the lock and the blade are very cheap. The blade comes sharp but dulls quickly with general use. There is a lot of play in the lockup. The knife is very uncomfortable to hold and the lock gets stuck. Do not waste your money on this blade instead buy a cold steel recon 1 or kershaw tension.
very good knife, love the f.a.s.t feature very good coating on the blade not easily scratched, i only wish the knife came in a larger size 4 INCHES TO BE EXACT
I always carry a knife. My fiancee' bought me this knife a year ago and it is still awesome.I useually have to get a new knife ever couple of months. I am a Harley mechanic, I use my knife for all kinds of things. I have used the blade to pry things, and useually when I do the blades break, but this one is doing good. And with the quick open and the breaching point on the bottom I would feel comfortable with this knife in a survival situation.
When I first purchased this knife I was quite pleased with the G-10 handle, tanto, surrated blade, and the assisted opening feature. But after only using this knife for around a month, the blade already lost it's edge and became dinged. Also, the blade has become very loose and moves quire a bit from side to side. I bought this knife because it was a Gerber, but apparently that doesn't stand for much anymore since they have become to wrapped in military contracts and making civilian gear in China. Goodbye, Gerber. You won't be missed!
I picked this knife up last April, so its been about 11 months.and has held up pretty well.
I bought a second one as a backup and its been setting in a cabinet for about 3 months because i have no need for it.The blade did develop some play in it after 2 months but fixed it by taking the pivot screw out and applying thread lock and haven't had the problem since.I really hate the fact that this knife is built over seas and the the blade material inst s30v like the auto. Overall I would have no problem relying on this knife in a tactical situation.
I REALLY LIKE THIS KNIFE. THE LOOK, FEEL AND THE WEIGHT TO IT IS JUST RIGHT. ITS NOT AS FAST OPENING AS I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE THOUGH.
I have a large collection of knifes to chose from for EDC purposes and this is a decent knife. You get what you pay for, for sure. After light use, the blade loses it's edge rather quickly, and with any pressure put on the blade itself you begin to see a good amount of play up and down as well as side to side. It is definitely a nice looking knife, and for EDC purposes achieves everything I need it to, but for any survival or tactical purposes, I would trust it for much. I also with the G-10 handles would be more grippy.
Overall, nice knife for the price.
I bought this knife at the BX that I am stationed at. It is a great knife for everyday carry, however it is a little bit on the heavy side, so it will take some time to get use to. Also, I wouldn't mind having a heavier spring action.
This is a decent knife overall. A tad large for an EDC knife but it does fit easily into a front pocket. This knife is NOT made of the S30V steel that the military 06 Auto Tanto is (American made; very good knife steel). This model is constructed of 7cr17MoV steel which is a bit better than your average run of the mill stainless steel knife. Some sources compare it to 440A stainless; some debate over that. --It does keep a decent edge though the serrations do seem to dull somewhat easily. My particular knife never had great serrations. If you don't abuse it & try to cut things like wire it keeps a decent edge. The 06 F.A.S.T. Tanto had a good feel in the hand and the locking mechanism engages automatically when you open it. The assisted opening works well though is a bit loud. If stealth were to be needed while opening this knife, use both hands and open it slowly. Overall, I would recommend to a friend; either this or the drop point blade, depending on preference.
I got this knife as a gift. I carry and use it everyday and have never had not one issue with it. Not sure why so many other people had problems with it. The spring assist works great and it holds an edge very well. I am now a gerber man for life.
It took a while but I finally found the info of the type of Stella the blade is made of.
7CR17. It's no S30W like the auto version. But still tough nonetheless. I love this knife and carry it everyday.
Amazing and comfortable grip. The ergonomics are amazing and designed for every technique, motion. Comes razor sharp out of the box. sharp enough to literally shave with. It fits rather nicely, clipped into your pocket, for such a large knife. I just purchased the knife today so the only draw back I have noticed thus far is, with the orientation of the clip, and blade side mixed with the F.A.S.T. technology, and the duel sided thumb studs, tends to open the knife prematurely as you're pulling it out of your pocket. This obviously could lead to pretty serious injury if you're not careful. It could also be a little bit smoother when opening and closing, but other than those two things i love the knife so far.
I've only had this knife a week now, but I have no complaints other than it could use a stronger spring mechanism. It seems to open rather slow for my taste. I can open most knives faster than this one opens on its own. As far as mechanical stability and reliability, I am very pleased. Still holds a very sharp edge and it's just the right size or gloved hands and even very cold hands. .
DECENT knife. Out of the box it needed a lot of sharpening. The serrations were not aligned with the blade but not a huge issue. The locking switch moves off track to the right which for OCD people like me requires a slight push to the left in order to align it. Again not a huge issue just annoying. FAST system works great and is literally fast and can be faster depending on the amount of energy you put into opening the blade. G10 handles are great and the glass breaker is also great. The blade can be sharpened decently but does not hold an edge for long. The steel is also VERY soft. I've used the serrations for nothing but cutting para-cord and already some of the teeth is starting to wear down. The knife does have great ergonomics and is very comfortable in the hand. The pocket clip was ridiculously tight when I got it and i had to sort of bend it up with a Flathead to make it easy to put on a pocket. Again not that big of a deal and at least I know it will never leave my pocket without my knowledge. Overall it is a pretty good folder for the price and what it is. It is a good EDC and will serve you well. You can always spend 200 dollars on a blade, but at least with this Gerber you will not cry if you lose it. And you will ALWAYS lose knives.
Love this knife & feel naked w/o it! Comes in handy at work for sharpening pencils to cutting open heavy industrial banding! Doubleplusgood!
I use this knife everyday at work all day.. shredding cardboard boxes like they're nothing. Also I paid way less than retail ($20 less at wal-mart of all places) and this knife is incredible. It is one of the sharpest knives I've ever seen right out of the box and it has kept its edge great so far. I've owned this kinfe for about a month now and would recommend it to anyone looking for a fast opening badass knife. Look no further. this knife is for you!
I love this knife so much. When I am out on a mission I bring it with when ever I get the chance. When I get my next pay check, I am buying 5 more.
searrations broke, bent, burred from cutting.......... paper, cardboard. 2 weeks in blade rattles and wobbles from light use i would actually be scared to have to use this knife for any heavy use might lose a finger.
overall looks nice and fancy but the quality, wayyyyyyy more left to be desired
when i got this knife i thought wow just wow i knew this knife was for me i like the g10 handle and the fact that it is spring assisted it has dual thumb studs so it is good for a rh or a lh witch is a good thing it is not sharp out of box with some sharpening this could be a fair hunting knife the half and half blade is good for cutting rope feels good in hand mind it is heavy but if you are like me you like a big knife
When i first bought this knife i thought it was ok, the open assist part of it is very slow half the time it dosnt if go. the knife seems more manual than automatic im not sure if the knife is supposed to make a grinding sound when opening it, other than that its fine. the blade seems to be the only decent part about it.
Got this knife a while back and it still works great. I have heard of others running into some trouble with the locking mechanism, but if you need a knife for extreme duty situations, then you should fork out a little more money. I have taken good care of mine and used it numerous times. My only suggestion is to look around at the pricing. This knife retails at $77, but I got mine on sale at walmart for $45.
1. GOOD; Sturdy hand grips that fit your hands, handy window breaker and lanyard loop at the base. Easy opening, locking and closing, (for me). Sturdy thick blade.
2. Could be better; Blade dulls easily, but sharpens quickly with sharpening steel, blade wobbles and rattles after continuous heavy duty use.
Overall a good emergency back-up knife, but not a utility
I got this knife for Christmas about 2 years ago. It loses its sharpness pretty quickly, and it is a little too big to be practical to carry daily. It is VERY sturdy and I haven't had any problems at all with parts coming loose. If I was put in a survival situation, this would be the knife I would chose to carry out of my personal collection.
it dulls quickly and doesnt stay sharp, also after 4 uses on 9line or parachute cord the locking parts never locked,
Final: poorly made knife with no idea of rush medical/tactical/useful tool is suppose to be. would never buy again but its a fantastic fishing knife.
also make for a great throwing knife or stake to hold a tent down or hammer.
I've had this knife for almost a year and the locking mechanism was difficult to use when i first purchased it but after i broke it in it has worked perfectly. The blade stays sharper for longer than many other blades i have had and i use this knife many times daily at work and it does the job. Impressed, i usually go with Boker, being from Germany, and decided to go with a Gerber and i was quite impressed i like this knife a lot.
I bought this knife at REI, during a recent sale. The knife was impressive in the display case, but so far that is where it has stopped. The blade has already begun to rust, near the base, after one canoe and one camping trip. The blade feels loose and when I tightened the blade adjustment screws, it would only get but so tight. The grip feels great, but I noticed that when the handle gets wet, the locking mechanism becomes very very tight, making the knife almost inoperable which is a deal breaker for me. The blade is quite sharp, but the steel gives way easily when cutting things like metal wire, or thick leather. I intended to carry this knife in my duties with the team, but when opening it, its SO loud, that tactical feasibility is limited. Even when the blade is tightened, its still feels quite loose. I intend to take this one back to rei and get a SOG assisted opening knife. Gerber I am surprised that you would put this out there under the guise of tactical. It is a gimmick knife...
NIce looking knife but why cant you make a civilian verson (not automatic) with s30v steel made in the us??
I was issued this knife, and I'm grateful for it. It's a fantastic knife and has served me well in Afghanistan on three tours. I don't know how these other fellows had problems with theirs. It's just not the same experience as I've had with mine, and I've never heard of a problem from any of my buddies who carry them too.
The clip became loose after a couple weeks, the serrations wear very easily, low quality steel. I've had lots of knifes over the years and was disappointed about this one.
I just got this knife at Walmart for about $60. Its strong and just a great knife. I bring it on all my campouts.
I have had mine for a few years now and love it. I carry it on a daily, and carried it in Iraq . This knife has never let me down
I have had this knife for one day after buying it for 60 dollars at walmart and the serrations are rolling and breaking off of the blade as well as the locking mechanism is sticking badly and sometimes very sporadic in if it works or not. overall not worth the money and will be returned shortly.
Excellent tough quick opening all purpose work knife that I wouldn't mind having on me all the time for whatever job especially for the price. Love the heavy feel of the knife in my hand and there is plenty to grip on to. I absolutely recommend this knife and have much experience with Gerber reliability.
I had surgery last week on my left elbow, its a great knife for only having one hand. Haven't got to use it to hard but one of the best knives I've purchased.
Good blade for the price, not the best knife they offer. I use it at work all the time for things it shouldn't be used for for about two years and I have never had to sharpen it. Locking and spring assist are a great feature. I too had to tighten up the blade screws a few times but it doesn't bother me. Fits great in the pocket with a phone or keys. Defiantly a good buy.
Pretty good knife, got it from Walmart for $60, only problem so far was the blade screws loosened up but got them tightened back up. Love the assisted open feature. Will probably buy the auto version eventually.
Good enough steel for what it is, very good blade guards. Solid feel, positive lock when open. Can easily drive it through most objects with no finger slip with the g10 grip. Great knife so far!
I've had this knife for almost two years, and some time last year, I made the mistake while "celebrating" to drive the blade into a picnic table, when my friend pulled it out sideways and snapped off about a CM of the tip. I was pretty bummed because I love this knife (or my slightly older model anyway) and hated to think about replacing it, especially at the price of this knife, so I got an UZI defender as my main work knife, and hit the shop bench with my Gerber, and ground the nose down and put a new tip on it, and minus some damage I did to the black finish, its good as new. Great opening mechanism and great handle, just would like it to be more idiot proof.
Well the price is absurd for what the knife actually does. Cool features but for all practical purposes I wold not reccoment this knife
when you first take out of the box your like yea i love it but ive had it for two months and it broke the whole fast part broke so know it doesn't have ast. opening and more importantly it does not lock. do not buy this knife!
I'm sad to say I'm not entirely impressed with this knife, cutting a piece of very small gauge wire bent a couple of the serrated teeth which tells me its made of cheap low grade steel. The opening action is louder than the rack of many pistols making it hardly "tactical". Cutting into an aluminum can will remove the paint in an instant. As a man who knows knives I would not recommend this knife for somebody who uses a knife in a tactical environment.
I have always been a S.O.G guy but Gerber is really stepping up their game. I have recently bought Aluminum Presto 3.0, and this one the 06 FAST Tanto. I am very very impressed.
Take it from me, i've used a multitude of different knives, till i found this one from a co-worker, absolutely incredible, went straight thru one of the boxes we were breaking down, split the box in half like butter! You'll spend a lil more on one, but totally worth it!
Great Knife, don't leave a single day without it in my pocket. Deploys very F.A.S.T and locks up very nice.
Just bought this knife it give me the feel of a recon1 with the g10 handle love the balance and the F.A.S.T technology can't wait to put it through the paces
